Saturday December 10, 2022 – Hike Little Cataraqui Creek Conservation Area
We will hike the “Little Cat”. It will be an easy hike and depending on the trails we choose to take, distance will vary from 8.5 to 11 km. At this time of year some of the trails will be muddy. Hiking boots are recommended. We will be starting at the Outdoor Centre and ending there. Park fees apply (Entry fee is $5.00 per adult to a maximum of $14 per vehicle).
Contact Paul at paul@cataraquicanoe.ca or phone (613) 877-3907 before 9 pm.
Tuesday December 13 th : Hike 2 nd Depot Lake
Let’s explore the Depot Lakes Conservation trails, one of my favourite places. Our hike will take us approximately 9 km along three trail loops, giving us great lookouts over Second Depot Lake, past ‘The Falls’, over a bridge crossing Depot Creek, and eventually to the dam at Third Depot Lake. These trails are rated ‘Beginner’ (mostly flat); and ‘Advanced’ (some steep grades), so good sturdy footwear is suggested. The group will be held to 12, due to limited parking. There is a $5.00 user fee.
Contact Marlene Rothenbury (mrothenbury@gmail.com) for more details.

Saturday, November 5 – Hike East End of Frontenac Park
We start at the end of Clear Lake Road. Hike on a dirt road for 3 km to the park gate. Another kilometre gets us to Salmon Lake Loop. Here we have a choice: head toward campsite #5 and on to Slide Lake Loop and Mink Lake lookout (about 5 km); do Clear Lake loop (9 km); or head for Hemlock Lake loop (1 km to get to it and 5 km on the loop). The distances are roughly equivalent (18 km, 17 km or 15 km).

The route will be more challenging than in past years and include off-trail hiking in a remote part of the park. Become an explorer. We will summit Blue Mountain for the panoramic view. Distance is likely to be about 13 km.

Sunday, October 2 – Paddle Crotch Lake
This is a beautiful lake northwest of Sharbot Lake with about 80 campsites on numerous granite islands, with windswept pine and birch trees. You may want to scout this to plan your own camping trip for a future expedition.
This is suitable for intermediate or expert paddlers because we will want to do 15 km or perhaps more. There are numerous beautiful places to take a break. Due to the distance, it may be desirable to share a car ride. It may be possible to arrange for carsharing if interested.

Monday, October 10 – The Frontenac Challenge (Final date dependent on weather)
The Frontenac Challenge is just that, a challenge. We will be doing 6 lakes and 6 portages to see the best of Frontenac Provincial Park’s fall colours at their very best. Good weather is guaranteed as we will choose a day with good weather forecast on or after October 10th. The reward is proportional to the effort here. This trip is not suitable for kayaks because of the portages, but light weight canoes work well and the club canoes will be made available. We will try to match crew and skip if you do not have a partner for this special trip. Some portages are almost a kilometre long, the total portaging is 3.3 kilometres with lots of breaks. This will be done at a leisurely pace so bring your camera and enjoy the best the park has to offer. You need to be in fit condition for this, but not an expert paddler. Park fees apply.
Call Steve at 613-542-1054 or email manderssteve@yahoo.com
Tuesday, October 11 – Thousand Islands Circle Tour
The plan will be for an approximate 25km route that will take us through the Admiralty and Lake Fleet Island groupings of the St. Lawrence River. We will paddle amongst several islands with magnificent views of granite outcroppings, towering pines and several eagle sightings. Due to the exposed open water crossings and the potential for white cap paddling conditions to develop, participants need to have experience and feel comfortable paddling in these waters if winds develop and challenging conditions present themselves This paddle is for those with upper intermediate to advanced level kayaking skills. Spray skirts and associated safety gear required. Please be prepared to pay a St. Lawrence Park beaching fee of $6.25. Refreshments in Gananoque before heading home.

Saturday May 7 – Paddle 14 Island Lake – Mothers’ Day
Come and explore this lovely lake and see if there really are 14 islands! A quiet lake with lots of sheltering bays and channels to investigate. Search for ospreys, eagles, loons, and basking turtles. Enjoy lunch on a private island. This will be a gentle, easy paced outing, geared to the ability and stamina of the weakest paddlers. Access is only available to this lake via private property. Parking is limited and the launch site is small, may entail a bit of wading. Because of this, numbers will be limited. Bring lunch and bug protection. Rating: easy (though water temperature increases the risk level so we will hug the shoreline for safety) Distance: as far as the laziest paddlers want to go.
If interested contact Debbie at (613) 374-1704.

Saturday May 21 – Paddle Gananoque River
We start in Gananoque, and paddle about 10 km upriver to the dam at Marble Rock; have lunch there, and paddle back. There is very little current, so it makes for an easy trip. (Unless we get strong winds!) The scenery along the way is varied, and interesting, but there are not many places to go ashore; either private land or marshy or steep shore.
If interested contact Ed at ejezak5@gmail.com or call (613) 389-4459.

This hike is designed for families with young kids as the distance is short, just under two hours, with three connected loops and two one-way sections. Terrain is easy, with a variety of habitats — wetlands, woodlands, and open spaces, as well as the creek. There is also the nicest privy you will ever find in the woods. Saturday, April 23 – Potluck Schedule Party for Events June – October 2022
Changed
With growing concerns of the high presence of Covid in our community the response to this event has been unusually low. We have regretfully decided to cancel. We thank Mary-Jean for her ongoing commitment to open her home and support the Club. It has been a spring social and functional event for many years and we hope it can return in the future.
Meanwhile, we encourage all trip leaders to reach out to Connie at the email below, with their proposed events for June, July, August and September. Connie will also be available at the Club Open House on May 4th and May 5th to meet leaders, discuss trips and complete the trip schedule. Connie, a new board member, looks forward to meeting everyone and producing a robust schedule. Connie can be reached at Connie@cataraquicanoe.ca

A full day paddle; bring a lunch and water. Some optional hiking to points of interest.

This trip has been a club favourite for decades. It starts at the trail centre of Frontenac Park and weaves across a myriad of frozen swamps to the south and east. The terrain is very scenic. Distance and difficulty can be adjusted for the participants, but generally significant hills can be avoided. The trip is suitable for skis or snowshoes. Depending on levels of interest, multiple trip groups can be organized, including separate trips for skiing and snowshoeing. If conditions aren’t suitable for skiing/snowshoeing, a hike will be substituted.

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 23 – SECOND DEPOT LAKES CONSERVATION TRAILS
Postponed to Wednesday, March 30.
Let’s explore the Depot Lakes Conservation trails, one of my favourite places.

The hiking trails leading to and from Blue Mountain are great for skiing and snowshoeing, and there are opportunities to stray from the trail to take in other points of interest. The ascent to the top of Blue Mountain is challenging and the view from the top wonderful.
