SATURDAY, DECEMBER 05 – MORNING WALK AT LEMOINE POINT

Dukke leads her traditional hike/walk at Lemoine Point to distract us from the stress of holiday preparation. (In springtime we had excellent views of a barred owl with an unfortunate squirrel in its talons!)

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 07 – FAMILY HIKE AT LANDON BAY

Join us for a morning of exploring the beautiful hiking trails at Landon Bay located in the Thousand Islands National Park. This hike is geared towards families with kids as the distance will be shorter and pace slower. It includes moderately rugged terrain with beautiful scenery, a picturesque lookout, old growth forests, granite outcroppings and waterfront views. 

After the hike, families are welcome to participate in a socially distanced picnic lunch.

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 21 – HIKE SHEFFIELD CONSERVATION AREA

Dugald proposes leading a hike southwesterly from the Dark-Sky-Viewing Area which would be about 8km long, partly on trails but mostly through open forest and on ridges and hills of granite bedrock.

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 28 – PARROTTS BAY HIKE 

Parrott’s Bay has 289 acres of woods and wetlands with beautiful waterfront views. Six km of gentle trails cross woodland, wetland and field areas to provide opportunities for wildlife viewing and nature appreciation.

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 03 – PADDLE FROM LAKE ONTARIO PARK
Ed invites you to join him on a paddle launching from Lake Ontario Park and heading west along the shore. Stop for lunch at Patterson Park, or paddle slightly further to Crerar Park.

TUESDAY, OCTOBER 06 – PADDLE DESERT TO BIRCH LAKE –
DRIVE TO NANCY’S COTTAGE (RAIN DATE WED. OCTOBER 07) 

Paddle from Desert to Birch Lake followed by an optional drive to Nancy’s Cottage where you may enjoy a hot soup on her cottage grounds. 

(Unhappily, there can be no pot-luck party this year, but Nancy kindly offers this social distancing alternative. You may BYOB. Assuming there may be a second group for the paddle, there is a limit of 18 participants, including Nancy and Don, to visit the cottage. )

Don will lead a paddle of approximately 15km from Desert to Birch Lake allowing sufficient daylight for the warming dish to follow.

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 10 – HIKE ON BLUE MOUNTAIN

Hiking Blue Mountain is a traditional Thanksgiving pursuit for residents of the Gananoque area when fall colours reach their peak. Led by Jim and hiking on Saturday we should be ahead of the crowd.

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 11 – LYNDHURST TO REDHORSE LAKE

Paddle from Lyndhurst through Singleton Lake to Redhorse Lake on the Gananoque River and return.  No shuttle.  This is a very scenic part of the James Auld Water way from Charleston Lake to Frontenac Provincial Park of approximately 20 km.  Suitable for all, slower paddlers could return earlier.

TUESDAY, OCTOBER 13 – FRONTENAC CHALLENGE HIKE –

LITTLE SALMON, LITTLE CLEAR & HEMLOCK LAKE LOOPS

What better way to recover from Thanksgiving than hiking in fall colours!

Hike Little Salmon, Little Clear and Hemlock loops in Frontenac Park, for a total of 22km, with possible option of doing one or 2 loops only.

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 17 – PADDLE BULL AND HORSESHOE LAKES

Steve offers new club trip within an hour’s drive time:  Bull and Horseshoe Lake on the upper Salmon River near Arden occupy a beautiful area.  There is limited public access with adequate parking in the area.  Arrangement have been made at a private camp ground for boat launching on a sandy beach with secure parking for a fee of $10 per car.  Washrooms will be also available.  This trip is suitable for all skill levels.  Beginners can return sooner if they choose.  Fall colours will be peaking about this time.

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 24   – HIKE MEISEL WOODS

Meisel Woods Conservation Area is located on North Anderson Road, Crow Lake, Ontario.  It can also be reached northeast of Tichborne (Hwy # 38). There are 5 km. of well-marked trails, some giving stunning views of Crow Lake. In the middle of Meisel Woods, there is a small Lake known as Bass or Beaver Lake with picnic tables located along the trails. Meisel Woods is a mixed forest area with many lofty trees.

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 31 – HALLOWEEN HIKE TO GHOST TOWN

Just in time for Halloween, come out for a 12km hike that includes exploring a Ghost Town (some years replete with skeletons!) and picnic overlooking Big Rideau Lake. Hike follows a section of Rideau Trail that Robert and Margaret maintain, starting at Narrows Lock.

WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 02 – FRONTENAC CHALLENGE SLIDE LAKE LOOP HIKE
 

Each year Frontenac Provincial Park challenges hikers to complete 160 km of trails in the park during September and October. Slide Lake Loop at 21 km is the longest, most rugged section, requiring an extra walk-in to the trail head. To circumvent the walk we paddle in 4 km on Big Salmon Lake.

8 km paddling, 21 km+ hiking. Be prepared for a long day 10+ hours. Park fees apply. If there is poor weather, a rain date will be arranged.

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 05 – MYSTERY TRIP
 

Dave likes to keep us guessing – will it be a paddle, a hike, or both?? Whatever he chooses, it is sure to be a fun, congenial outing.

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 12 – CHARLESTON LAKE PADDLE

Charleston Lake is one of the largest lakes in the area featuring numerous islands and bays. We will be exploring areas of the shoreline, graced with granite rock cliffs and towering pines.

Charleston Lake can be windy so participants need to be prepared to encounter rougher waters. Distance will be approximately 25 km. Provincial Park fees may apply.

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 19 – LOUGHBOROUGH LAKE PADDLE

We are lucky to have this beautiful, scenic lake close to the Kingston area. Launching from Battersea John will paddle more of the North Shore exploring islands along the way to include some of the NE shore.

This intermediate level paddle, km to be determined, will not proceed to the end of the lake before making the return voyage.

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 26 – CIRCUMNAVIGATE GRENADIER ISLAND

Join Sam for a paddle on the St Lawrence River to circumnavigate Grenadier Island. The trip will start from Rockport and go to the south side of Grenadier Island. Lunch at Adelaide Island.

Return to Rockport by paddling along the north shore of Grenadier Island.

This is a full day trip with total distance of approximately 20 km. Potential strong winds, big waves, and strong current – experienced paddlers only. Beaching fees may apply.

TUESDAY, WEDNESDAY, THURSDAY: SEPTEMBER 29, 30, & OCTOBER 01,

FRONTENAC PARK – BIRCH LAKE CAMPING

We have reserved sites at Camp #8 on the east end of Birch Lake. It is a delightful setting among tall pines on a point of land. Space for camping is restricted and must be reserved with the park in advance. Club members are invited to join in, one, two or three nights may be arranged. Some campers will be participating in the Frontenac Challenge and use the site as base camp. It is about a one hour paddle from Kingsford Lake or the Desert Lake campgrounds. The short distance is ideal for canoes with a load of camping gear. Kayakers may be able to find help with their gear, such as lawn chairs if they let us know ahead of time.

Approx. 5 km or one hour to camp. 1-3 days optional paddling and/or hiking trips. All levels.

SATURDAY, AUGUST 01 – BOATHOUSE TO MILTON ISLAND

Join Jim for another new paddle, this time on the St. Lawrence. Paddle from the Boathouse to scenic Milton Island and return for approximately 18km.

Conditions on the River may be changeable with the development of strong wind and waves. Suitable for experienced paddlers only.

SATURDAY, AUGUST 08 – PADDLE FROM ROCKPORT

You are invited to paddle the St. Lawrence River from Rockport to 

Ivy Lea via Smugglers Cove.  After lunch on Ash Island we return by Fiddlers Elbow and Lost Channel. We will be paddling in the heart of the 1000 Islands among spectacular scenery and magnificent mansions. 

Total distance 16 km. Full day, intermediate level. An easy distance for kayakers but canoeists need extra caution. Wave action and seaway traffic may be challenging. Call Jim at 613-305-2849.

SUNDAY, AUGUST 09 – ST. LAWRENCE RIVER PADDLE

Join Mary and Sam for an exploration of the Navy Islands. We will put in at Landon’s Bay and head south to circumnavigate Stave Island.

We’ll follow a circuitous route among many small islands to our lunch spot on Mulcaster. The afternoon will be more island exploration with the return through sheltered waters. 

This is an intermediate paddle, 15 km, suitable for experienced kayakers or canoeists. On the St. Lawrence there is always potential for strong winds, big waves and current. In addition to a PFD the wearing of a spray skirt is strongly recommended.

A lovely local lake, with one of the best beaches, in a conservation area we often take for granted. Larry will circumnavigate the lake by canoe for 8-10KM.  Enjoy a leisurely paddle, with a swim for those who are interested, and take lunch on shore.

Let’s explore the many coves and islands of Devil Lake.  This beautiful body of water is 145’ at its deepest with clear, clean waters.  We can search out the resident Bald Eagle and Osprey families, and be guaranteed a view of the many loon pairs.  Wind and weather depending, we will explore the many shorelines both north and south.

SATURDAY, AUGUST 22 – KAYAK PADDLE FROM WELLINGTON TO SANDBANKS

The trip will be 25+ km in distance. We will drive to Wellington and paddle the sandbanks towards the beach in Athol Bay. Have lunch on a sandy beach with the option to enjoy a swim. The open and exposed shoreline will make this adventure suitable for experienced sea kayakers.  

Winds and waves can develop on route so participants should be comfortable paddling in whitecaps with everyone having spray skirts, plus the required safety gear and the knowledge of how to use it.  We should also be prepared to pay provincial park admittance fees. This trip will proceed only if weather forecast conditions are appropriate.

Numbers will be limited to 9 participants due to limited parking, to ensure social distancing measures, and to better facilitate put in/take out and lunch arrangements. Call Don at 613-929-8099

SUNDAY, AUGUST 23 – PADDLE LYNDHURST TO DELTA BEACH

This paddle starts by the historic stone arch bridge and goes through picturesque Lyndhurst Creek and islands of Beverley Lake to Delta, where we can see the  historic Delta Mill then picnic and swim on Delta beach. Snacks & ice cream are usually available at the resort concession and also back in Lyndhurst. 

Return trip is 17km. Depending on wind, the open waters of Beverley Lake can prove a more challenging paddle.

SATURDAY, AUGUST 29 – FIFTH DEPOT LAKE 

‘Fifth Depot Lake is located along Fifth Lake Road northeast of Tamworth, Ontario. Four streams flow into the lake and the Depot Creek flows out of the lake on the north end. The lake offers a variety of fish cover and structure including weed beds, lily pads, submerged logs, rubble shoreline areas, islands’………

…..the Fishing Map fails to mention the delightful paddling to be enjoyed on this scenic lake with its striking geological features, excellent lunch and swim spots!

Fifth Depot is about 6km long affording a paddle of about 10-12km.Call Bob at 613-384-4482 to join in. Nine places are available.

SUNDAY, AUGUST 30 – ST LAWRENCE RIVER ISLAND TOUR

Join Sam for a kayak paddle on the St Lawrence River. The trip will start from Gray’s Beach and go east to the Navy Islands. Circumnavigate Stave Island then lunch at Mulcaster Island. After lunch go east to Cunliffe Island and then turn around and go west to Camelot Island. Paddle across St Lawrence and return to Gray’s Beach. 

This is a full day trip with total distance of approximately 25 km plus. Potential strong winds, big waves, and strong current – experienced paddlers only.

SATURDAY, JULY 04 – PADDLE ON BEAVER LAKE

We start at the north end of the lake, in Tamworth, paddle to the south end in Erinsville; have lunch in a park there and return. The lake is 5 km long, so in good weather it should be an easy paddle. If we get ambitious, we can paddle up to, and some distance along Salmon River, to the bridge where we take out on running the rapids above.

WEDNESDAY, JULY 08 – RIDEAU LAKES PADDLE

 Enjoy a paddle in a quiet section of Rideau Lakes with a swim and picnic lunch on a private island.  

There is a possibility Janice and Eric could lead two different groups – one at a more relaxed pace – different start times.  The launch area is quite roomy, and we could use more than one island if needed, so we should be able to physically distance.  Call Janice at 613-542-9958 to find out more.

SATURDAY, JULY 18 – PADDLE ON EAGLE LAKE

Eagle Lake offers pristine clear waters, a small sandy beach at the launch site, towering pines with granite ridges and occasional eagle sightings. It can sometimes be windy. The plan will be to do a shoreline tour.
Participants should be capable of basic skills, self-rescue, and be comfortable paddling in white caps. Distance will be 20-25km.Numbers will be limited to 6 participants on this trip due to limited parking, to ensure social distancing measures, and to better facilitate put in/take out and lunch arrangements. SATURDAY, JULY 18 – NEW MEMBERS NOVICE PADDLE

Members new to the C.C.C.this year are invited to join Mary and Dave on this paddle from the boathouse. This will be a relaxed leisurely paddle of a small section of the Cataraqui River. It will be 2-3 hours ,with a stop at a park for snack and stretch.

SUNDAY, JULY 19 – Paddle to Cedar Island

Join Mary and Sam on this paddle from the boathouse. Our plan is to paddle Lake Ontario to Cedar Island, with lunch and swim at Arrowhead Park. Trip is approximately 12km, 4-5 hours long.

SATURDAY, JULY 25 – MORTON CREEK TO BEVERLEY LAKE PADDLE

This paddle goes through the quiet wilderness of Morton Creek, past petroglyphs and islands to Delta beach, where we can picnic and swim. Usually snacks & ice cream are available at the resort concession.
Return trip is 20km. The open waters of Beverley Lake occasionally prove a more challenging paddle. Email Robert at retolley@hotmail.com to reserve your place.

TUESDAY, JULY 28 – DESERT LAKE
CHANGED! Was Landon Bay but it is choked with weeds!

We’ll take a leisurely exploration of the shoreline of Desert Lake starting at the boat launch on the south shore. The trip will be between 10 and 14 km depending on wind conditions and the needs of the group. Lunch will be at the north or north western end of the lake where there will be swimming opportunities.

SATURDAY, JUNE 6 – COMMODORE’S PADDLE TO DOG LAKE

Paddle Dog Lake with Jim as he explores a newer CCC destination in scenic, sheltered waters.

TUESDAY, JUNE 9 – PADDLE SYDENHAM LAKE

Sydenham Lake paddle: Suitable for all levels, about 12-13 km round trip. Paddle along the north shore of Sydenham Lake into Eel bay and then into Little Long Lake where we’ll have lunch. Will it be warm enough to swim?

SATURDAY JUNE 13 – FIFTH  DEPOT LAKE  (NEW)

This lake has a strong resemblance to the world famous Thirty Thousand Islands of Georgian Bay.  There is a good public boat launching ramp and numerous smooth granite beaches along the north shore to take a break or a swim from.  

We can accommodate up to ten participants, but more than that would overwhelm the parking spaces available.  About 10 km paddling, no portages or shuttles, suitable for beginners.    Located 15km west of Parham at 1527 Fifth Lake Road.  Call Steve at 613-542-1054.

SATURDAY JUNE 20 – PADDLE ON THE GANANOQUE RIVER (NEW)

We shall put in in Gananoque, in Confederation Park, on the west side of the river. The distance to the dam at Marble Rock is about 10 kilometres. We might go all the way to the dam, but we can turn around sooner if we choose. 

There is almost no current at this time, so the paddling should be relaxing.  Contact Ed at 613-389-4459.

SUNDAY JUNE 21 – RIDEAU PADDLE FROM SEELEY’S BAY

Robert offers a round-trip paddle on a lovely section of Rideau River from Seeley’s Bay.  Put-in and take-out at Centennial Park, paddling north to Jones Falls, passing by Rock Dunder. There will be a lift over into Dean’s Pond. Picnic by the locks.  Due to likelihood of significant waves on Whitefish Lake, sea-kayaks are recommended, but a shorter trip from Morton may be arranged for canoes.

SATURDAY, JUNE 27 – ST. LAWRENCE RIVER PADDLE

Join Mary (15km) and Sam (22km) for a paddle on the St. Lawrence. Mary will put in at Landon’s Bay and Sam at Greys Beach . The two groups will meet up and paddle Landon’s Bay creek and view the waterfall. We will then proceed to a lunch spot on a National Park Island, situated between Potato Island and Downie Island .

This is a full day trip. There is potential for high winds, big waves and strong current on the river- experienced paddlers only.
